More than just a Massage Therapist
Meet Carrie
After graduating from my initial program, I started my journey in a sports clinic, working alongside other practitioners. This experience shaped my path, but my interest in anatomy and the human body had always been there. As an active person who enjoyed the gym, running, and hiking, I initially pursued a personal trainer certification in my early 20s. I even signed up for a massage therapy program back then, but I backed out and decided to travel instead. During that time, I completed my personal trainer certification and worked as a corporate manager for about 5-6 years.
Eventually, I let go of the corporate world and found my way back to my passion. I re-enrolled in massage therapy school eight years later and completed the program in my early 30s. From there, I returned to the clinic setting, then eventually leased my own space. This marked a renewal in my career, where I discovered just how much support was lacking for women in the healthcare field—particularly in areas like pre- and post-natal care, where I saw a significant need for more practitioners to support moms and women.
A turning point came when a long time patient of mine and my sister were both diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a life-changing moment that made me realize how few people were doing the important work of supporting women through these challenges. I took a specialized course in mastectomy care to learn more, and I fell in love with the entire experience—knowing that I was making a real difference in the lives of those facing this difficult journey.
For many of my clients, especially those dealing with breast cancer, post-surgical recovery, the work I do is about much more than physical healing. It’s about creating a space where they feel seen, heard, and in control of their recovery. It’s a reminder that they chose this path and are taking back their strength. I aim to provide them with information and guidance, as there is so much to know and often leaves so many feeling a sense of uninformedness during their journey.
Many women come through my door feeling isolated, saying things like, “I had no idea this care existed, I've been just going on like this.” I strive to change that by offering a space that’s both educational and empowering—holding their hand through the process, sharing knowledge, and making sure they feel equipped to the best of my ability. While breast cancer and post-surgical recovery are deeply personal experiences, the common thread is often a lack of information and support as their journey moves into survivorship. Understanding what is happening to their bodies and how to have support in this area is a vital part of their recovery.
My goal is to reach a point where 70% of my practice focuses on supporting women through these stages—not just general massage, but specialized care for pre- and postnatal women, post-surgery recovery, and those balancing life through a cancer diagnosis into survivorship. I want to create a judgment-free space, whether my clients are recovering from a C-Section or facing the physical and emotional challenges of breast cancer.
